Action Research Grants for Math and Science Teachers
The El Paso Math and Science
Partnership awarded $29,000 in grants to 18 El Paso math
and science middle and high school teachers to conduct research
on the
teaching and learning of math and science in their classrooms.
Individual teacher-researchers were awarded grants of
$3,000, while teams of teacher-researchers
received $4,000. UTEP faculty
members will
serve as
mentors
to the
teachers throughout
the process.
The grants are for classroom related research
to math and science teachers of
grades 6-12 in El Paso area public schools. Studies
involve innovative research that utilize scientific
study and design to optimize improvement of math and science education.

of Arts In Teaching
Math
and Science
Through
the Math-Science Partnership (MSP),
UTEP’s College of Science is offering a two year, part-time master’s
degree in teaching mathematics and master's degree in teaching
science. Teacher-scholars selected for the program will a $2000
per year stipend. They
will attend classes designed specifically
for working teachers, evenings and/or weekends during the school
year and summer classes during summer break. The
Master of Art in Teaching with a major in science (MAT) will
begin its first
cohort in
the Fall 2003 semester. The first
cohort of teacher-scholars (science) will focus on physics and
chemistry.
