Partners 

The lead organization for the proposed El Paso Mathematics/Science Partnership is the El Paso Collaborative for Academic Excellence, based at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). The Collaborative is comprised of the city's key education, business and civic leaders and has taken the lead and successfully completed several major systemic reform initiatives. Included among these are the El Paso Urban Systemic Initiative, a five-year $15 million grant from the National Science Foundation completed in 1999; an $8 million U.S. Department of Education Technology Innovation Challenge Grant, currently in the final year of a five-year funding period; and the Pew Charitable Trust's Community Compacts for Student Success, a $1 million grant from 1992 through 1998. The Collaborative is in the fourth year of a five year NSF Urban Systemic Program Grant.

The El Paso MSP includes the following partners:

• The University of Texas at El Paso

• The El Paso Community College

• The El Paso, Ysleta and Socorro ISDs

• Area districts, including: Anthony, Canutillo, Clint, Dell City, Fabens, Ft. Hancock, San Elizario, Sierra Blanca, and Tornillo ISDs

• Region 19 Education Service Center

In addition to these core members, the partnership also encompasses civic, business and community leaders, including:

• Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce

• Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

• Black Chamber of Commerce

• Texas Business and Education Coalition

• El Paso Interreligious Sponsoring Organization
